January 27th invite

On the 27th of January (American time) Apple are holding a Media event, now the exact purpose of this Media event isn’t known by anyone other than those in the inner-circle at Apple HQ, but with their invite and advertisements stating “Come See Our Latest Creation” many can only assume that it is of course the subject of much rumour and speculation, the Apple Tablet Device, said to have been in the works many years, and to have been shelved several times but with the purchase of 10″ Screens by Apple and many places “Quoting” discussions and information, many people are jumping to the conclusion that the illustrious tablet will indeed be the center piece of this media event, along with iPhone OS 4.0 and possible slight updates to the iLife suite.

Artists concept image of the Apple Tablet

While no one knows for sure that Apple is releasing a Tablet at all this year, many sources have been claimed to have said that Apple will be releasing or announcing a Tablet in the first quarter of 2010. While rumour sites are abuzz with speculation and wishlists and artist-renditions of the device. Most people are certain that there will be a Tablet because of two reasons, the last time there was this much hype about product releases. Apple squashed such rumours well and truely before the event, to prevent the let down of certain products not being released from hurting their sales of other devices. And the second reason being that a few app creators for iPhone/iPod Touch Applications have been asked to create higher resolution versions of their apps, most likely for Apple to demo on the Tablet device.

Being the junky that I am, I will likely purchase this device if it’s some great new advancement, but it will want to be more than just an over grown iphone other wise my wallet may just stay shut, and at the moment the majority of talk has it running iPhone OS. Which could be the major let down of said device. There’s no way I’m going to be able to cover all the rumours and speculation here, so if you want to see what others are saying about the possible device, check out Macrumors.com

The trip ended up taking us for a rather interesting day, taking us to the Westbury Maze where the girls beat the boys to the centre and to the exit. My sense of direction is really bad, so never follow me into a maze! It was quite fun, apart from when I tripped over and fell into a Hedge! Actually I ran into quite a few trees on our day trip. After this we decided we would head out to Mole Creek and check out the caves.

We went on a cave tour with about 5 other people, apart from one lady showing her parents around, we were the only group of Tasmanians, it was fun. Especially the part when we first got into the cave and Caroline and I were standing against the wall when the Tour Guide decided to point out a rather ugly spider that was right behind us, following on to tell us they could grow to the size of Dinner Plates. Yeah we moved pretty fast. Only to end up standing under a Stalactite to have a person from Sydney point out a Cave Cricket right above my head, causing me and Caroline to Jump once again, with Caroline squealing and almost knocking me over.

The Cave tour was good, and when we got to the top part called the Cathedral, the tour guide asked us to sing. No one did, which was good because the only song that was in my head was the Im A Korean Parody of the Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling. SO I didn’t really want to start singing that. Although the tune was stuck in my head all the way back. On the subject of musical Tunes, I noticed Kyle randomly leading Caroline and Yolanda in song with Im A Korean, I gotta Feeling and best of all, Friends for Ever.

After the cave trip we headed back to Launceston, only to stop at the Allum Cliffs and walk once again up and down and look at more rocks. All in all it was a good day, But I am stuffed. Here are some pictures taken on my iPhone.

So for the five of you that follow me on Twitter, you will know that the other day my iPhone 3GS fell off my bedside table, a total hight of say 2 feet onto the carpet, and decided that it didn’t want to work no more. After about an hour of trying to get my iPhone to turn itself back on or do anything, I came to the conclusion that it was unfortunately dead. A $1000 phone, dead from ONE fall onto carpet. I realised I would need a phone, even if it was only temporary, so I jumped in my car and headed down to the Telstra shop to get a cheap temp phone and ended up getting the LG TU720 Shine for $249. Hoping that if I gave the iPhone a week or so to recover that it may get better and just be all good and stuff.

But now, a day after using the LG Shine, I’ve realised the simplicity in just a normal phone, I know that may come as a shock to some of you, the iPhone is my life, along with my Macbooks. But just using a simple little Slide phone that has half the features of the iPhone is some what relaxing. It was fun to figure out and remember how to use a Non Qwerty Touch Screen Phone, but the simplicity of its features and functions actually have me thinking… If the iPhone doesnt work and for some ungodly reason isnt replaced by warrenty then maybe I could just stick with the LG Shine for now.

Although I feel the iPhone may have spoiled me still. While yes the iPhone 3GS only just got video recording etc. Most standard phones these days have Video recording and 3 or more MegaPixel Cameras meaning that for just fun point and shoot photos all you need is your phone. The iPhone has GPS and a large screen, easy to control once you get past the fact that it isnt a 1234567890#* Phone. It has an abundance of features that you think… why do I need that, but when you loose access to such feature your in pain thinking WHY OH WHY GOD IS MY FEATURES GONE!

I think, if the iPhone maybe changed up its design a bit more and moved away from the plastic single colour backing and added a better quality Digital camera, and hell a Front camera for video calls. There would be no reason for me feeling this semi-attraction to a normal phone once again after having used an iPhone for over 1.5 years maybe the iPhone needs to change its design up to keep people interested. Sure Apple you can bring out a great device, and most of the time the same customers will be buying your product, and when you send out a new and improved version they dont want just Under the Hood improvements, maybe spicing up the aesthetics a bit will bring more people in, and convince more people to upgrade.

One of the major things that I may have come to expect from phones though after the iPhone is a fully featured Internet browser, it will be one thing, along side the GPS and the add-on Applications that will take me back to the iPhone. Because I can’t live with a Bad Mobile Browser version of Twitter and Facebook… Not Anymore, which is why I am glad that after a day of the iPhone resting, I plugged it in and alas it started to charge, who knows maybe it was the 3.1.1 update after all. All I know is that Im gunna use this LG Shine for a few more days, get my fill for usage of the basics and then I will go back to my beloved iPhone. What happens with my LG Shine? Well lets just say my Mum needs a new phone… She doesnt even have a camera on hers.

Although at this stage of the challenge I’m thinking that come the end of 31 for 31 while I may not post every day, I may try and make it every other day to keep the site constantly going with something new!

Speaking of that, here is a random screen clip

Because we all know that people like pretending to be Dinosaurs. Who knows.

Also to celebrate the almost halfway ness of 31 for 31 here is a video on youtube of Windows 95 running on an Apple iPhone!

I promise a more interesting blog tomorrow, the past few days the blogs have become more of an after thought. I know shame on me

This weeks iPhone app of the week is by Electronic Arts Nederland BV and it is their new app, Trivial Pursuit (International) the app costs $5.99 from the iTunes App store and is currently labeled with Apple as New and Note worthy so I figured, why not give it a go and see where mine and Apple’s opinions meet up.

APPLICATION DESCRIPTION
With 1,000′s of new questions, you’ll never run out of answers. Stunning graphics and rich sound effects immerse you in the game. Feeling nostalgic? Play a round in Classic Mode. In the mood for something new? Choose your path to success in Pursuit Mode. Answer fun and challenging questions correctly to get your piece of the pie!!!

MY REVIEW

Before I start, I would like to point it out that I have and probably always will be completely useless at Trivial Pursuit unless they bring out a Trivial Pursuit for Geeks, in which case I will probably still fail! Because that is my kind of thing… I prefer mindless entertainment, really speaking myself up here aren’t I?

After downloading and playing this game, I hate to say that in my opinion it isn’t really worth the $5.99 price tag, maybe $1 or $2 but $5 is something a bit hefty for someone like me who isn’t really a general facts / history buff. The game itself is relatively easy to play, with a shake of the iPhone the dice roll’s its way around and you get to select which piece you want to jump onto, I will admit that I played the game on easy, because I know Medium or Hard I would have given up on in about 2 minutes. Although I almost found Easy to be too easy, to the point in which I got about 20 questions right in a row and had already earned 3 Pie pieces before the AI opponent even had a roll of the dice.

But let me tell you, Once I failed that Sport and Leisure question I was screwed with a big old pile of bad luck and dumbness on my part and for about 15 minutes after that I didn’t get a question right and I put the iPhone down on the charger to write this little old review.

In my opinion if you want a game to pass the time, Crash Bandicoot Racing or iCopter might be a better bet for some small entertainment factor, unless testing your knowledge is your forte I really don’t think this app is worth much, I do how ever highly rate the game app with its like-ness of the real board game, the creators have managed to successfully capture the essence of the Trivial Pursuit Board game extremely well and the AI, Single player adaption is great for those who want to test their knowledge in solitude.

Over all I rate this app 4/10 with it’s most redeeming factor being its likeness to the real game.
