After finding the Pilot for Chuck on the iTunes store, I quickly became hooked with this show, and some how managed to watch 44 episodes in just under a week, yes I know that sounds sad, but I was on holidays and it’s a good show. Currently into it’s third season “Chuck” is easily explained by its taglines

Computer Geek by Day. Government Operative by Night

He’s the Secret. She’s the Agent

The show is about a twenty-something computer geek named Chuck, who after getting kicked out of Stanford 5 years ago is currently working at a Buy-More, the shows version of a large electronics retailer. He works in the Nerd Herd, fixing computers for a living at $11 an hour, and his life is turned upside down when his old College room-mate, the same guy that got him expelled, sends him an email on his birthday.

Bryce Larkin, Chuck’s old room-mate works for the CIA but went rogue, breaking into the CIA and NSA’s top-secret computer which holds all the country’s secrets, downloading them to a PDA and blowing up the building, eventually he gets shot but not before he emails it off to Chuck. The computer was called the Intersect, the combined data base of the country’s biggest secrets, embedded into thousands of images. Images that flash by on Chucks computer screen when he opens the email, downloading the information into his brain.

John Casey, an agent for the NSA and Sarah Walker from the CIA are assigned to protect him and use the knowledge that is now in his head, turning a Computer Nerd into a secret agent.

One recurring line that I’ve noticed through out the show, is also possibly the only line never adhered to. With John and Sarah constantly telling Chuck to “Stay in the Car” while they are on a mission, but he always manages to leave and get into some trouble, or save their lives. But then again, it wouldn’t be a very interesting show if all the episodes revolved around the amateur spy sitting in the car while the experts go out and save the day.

Having to keep his real life and his new life apart is something that Chuck struggles with all through out the series. Especially when he develops feelings for Sarah, the CIA agent whose cover is his girlfriend. This is one part of the show that gets annoying, every other episode they are fighting, breaking up and getting back together and its gotten to the stage where they need to make up their minds and either stay together or get over it. But with that aside, I think everyone would enjoy the show.

So, if you can… I urge you to check it out, and if you want another opinion of the show check

out iGamers post about it!

Why am I showing you all this, or why did I even check this ad up further. Well remember what I said before, THIS AD WAS ON THE SCIFI CHANNEL, a channel devoted to geeky, nurdey, scientific, shows and not to be sexist or anything, but the majority of SciFi Fan’s are Guys.. sure there would be a few girls that would watch it. But still, it kind of just seems like the ad wouldn’t really be overly effective on this channel.

Welcome all to Monday the 3rd of August 2009, my Name is Daniel and I will be your host for this evening, and the foreseeable future whilst your viewing my blog. As regular readers will know, I’ve just started two and a half weeks much needed holiday. I’ve decided to give you all just a good old regular blog, no research (because I haven’t picked up the Atlantis Atlas for two days now) and no Pimping because my internet is to slow to load Flickr (Damn you 25Gig Cap)

For my first day of Holidays I thought it would be a bit un-eventfull. Sitting around the house surfing on the web just being a house bum… although in a matter of minutes it quickly turned into me and iKoz racing to Courtney’s work to catch up for Lunch, something that we commonly do on a Tuesday (my regular, Rostered Day Off) After some much needed food and random chatting, me and Kyle ended up at Office works after dropping off Courtney back at work.

The visit to Officeworks was of course a geeky one as we both looked over the 1TB External hard drives and we both proceeded to purchasing. Western Digital My Book Home Edition 1TB drives, 30% more energy efficient from standard systems… YAY, although I have found that I really do like this External drive. It was easy to use and set up, even if it did result in me and Kyle having to spend an extra $25 at the Apple store to buy a Firewire 800 / 400 connector cable (Our Macbook’s decide to have 800 size hole compared to the Hardrives 400 size cable. (is it just me or does that sound dirty?))

The flashing lights on the front are fun J because you know flashing things amuse me, The lights flash up and down when there are file access / transfers in progress and sit solid when in standby, the drive does make a small amount of spinning sound but that’s only when under intense use. There are 2 Firewire 400 ports on the back, except you can only use one at a time… and there is also a Micro USB as well as eSata I have yet to use the USB or eSata (I have the connection just no cable) and why use USB when its slower than Firewire which I have on both my Mac and PC (Which is working again under Windows XP, its basically a file server atm and Media center, it Connects to my surround sound and TV, my Mac does that as well but I can leave the PC plugged in and take the Mac around J )

At the moment I’m backing up my DVD collection to my PC which has 1 TB of space and also to the

External HD, I’ve spent a fair bit of money on my DVD’s and I figured it would be best for me to keep copies of them in case the original disc’s get scratched.

Oh yeah that reminds me, Stargate Atlantis Season 5 came in the mail today, as well as Merlin season 1, But SGA S5 came with a FREE USB MUG WARMER… because I drink soo much coffee that I needed it…. I am drinking a coffee at the moment, to see how it runs. The Blue lights are bright, and the pad does get quite warm but it only seems to be keeping the drink Luke warm now after the mug has been sitting half empty for a few minutes.

As you can guess, I am watching Season 5 right now, and shamefully sitting in my Stargate Atlantis Jacket, which got washed the other day… it hadn’t been washed since I got it, but I don’t wear it a whole lot. But because I couldn’t put the Velcro patches in the wash… guess where they ended up…

I think that’s all I have to say today, I should be back tomorrow or Wednesday hopefully with some new Pics for you all! Or a Product review, who knows!

Happy Camping!

So yesterday the 31 for 31 challenge ended, and while I enjoyed the challenge, I also felt rather free that I no longer had to post every single day.

So yesterday the 31 for 31 challenge ended, and while I enjoyed the challenge, I also felt rather free that I no longer had to post every single day. But now, for the life of me I can’t help but feel that I need to update. Post something… anything. So I figured, why not just update on a few things. Earlier in July, I blogged about a book I brought. The Atlantis Code, The estimated number of books written on Atlantis run into the hundreds and thousands, Atlantis is just one of the dozens of lost lands and mythical places thrown up by cultures through out history and around the world, and as Most of my blog readers will know anything Atlantis gets my interest in 0.03 seconds flat! Hence the $200+ SG: Atlantis jacket I got from the USA and owning all the Stargate seasons + waiting for one to arrive in the mail!

Well my obsession kinda possibly got worse with the end of the book, as I logged onto http://fishpond.com.au and ordered myself two more books, One book, The Atlas of Atlantis and other Lost civilizations and The Chaos Code

The Chaos Code

Matt’s dad has disappeared. An eminent archaeologist, he’s left Matt only a coded message with a bizarre set of instructions. Clues that lead Matt to the enigmatic Julius Venture and on to a world-wide treasure hunt. The race is on to find a lost treasure so powerful that it could change the world. Desperate to rescue his father, Matt knows he must get to the treasure first. With the help of Venture’s daughter Robin, and the sponsorship of an enthusiastic billionaire, Matt is soon crossing continents, deciphering codes and exploring ancient ruins in an exhausting bid to stay one step ahead of his enemies. But ancient powers are stirring, and all paths seem to lead to the same place – a magnificent pyramid hidden in the Peruvian jungle. The world isn’t ready for what Matt’s about to discover. An ancient secret that could rewrite history books. A secret that could blow open the greatest mystery of all: Atlantis.

The Atlas of Atlantis and other Lost Civilizations

Was there once a civilization more advanced than ours? One that was technologically sophisticated and more spiritually aware than we can imagine? “The Atlas of Atlantis and Other Lost Civilizations” is an exhaustivereference guide to this intriguing question. Through extensive research and beautiful illustrations, Joel Levy reconstructs these civilizations and reveals the theories about their inhabitants, culture and their fate. Including detailed maps of possible locations and an overview of the archaeological evidence, this book could change the way you see our world forever.

Table of Contents

Features illustrated reconstructions of ancient Atlantis, detailed maps of possible locations and an overview of the archaeological evidence.

I haven’t really gotten far into the Atlas of Atlantis and the Chaos Code hasn’t arrived yet, but the Atlas of Atlantis is already interesting me with information that I really didn’t know. Just so you know if this doesn’t interest you the blog will be getting even more boring from here on in with a few pages of facts I noted from the book.

The first mention of Atlantis comes from the writings of Plato, an ancient Greek philosopher and statesman who lived in the 5th and 4th centuries BCE. In two of his works, known as the Dialogue of Timaeus and the Dialogue of Critias he describes an island continent where a prosperous kingdom flourished and became the centre of a powerful empire before being destroyed in a massive natural disaster caused by the gods as punishment for its hubris.

Atlantologists, is the name given to people who study Atlantis, and they generally have a very different picture of Atlantis from the general public, of which plato painted in prose nearly two and a half thousand years ago. The Atlantis myth has been seen in many different ways. From a place with pyramids, crystals, telepathy and flying vehicles, to sci-fi wonder lands, none of which feature in Plato’s version. He describes Atlantis as a tropical country, surrounded by mountains in a fertile plain, criss-crossed with irrigation works and in the centre of it all, a glorious capital city of concentric canals, centred on a fortified hill (or Acropolis) of palaces and temples.

Plato’s Atlantis was more of an exaggerated version of cities and states which he would have been familiar with at the time of his writing, although using bronze instead of iron as the main metal, making Atlantis a highly advanced Bronze Age civilization he even states a specific date for its peak, 9500 BCE.

The problem for Atlantologists, is that no where in conventional history is there and recognized evidence for a Bronze Age civilization of any kind from that period, let alone one as Advanced to the scale of the mythical Atlantis. Conventionally, 9500 BCE is deep with in the Stone Age period, a period of prehistory when humankind, was at best. Taking its first steps into agriculture and hadn’t mastered metallurgy, writing and monumental construction to the stage of living in towns or cities, which puts a serious disjunction between Plato’s claims and archaeology.

Over the thousands of years, millions of people have remained convinced that Plato didn’t just make up the Lost Land, and this is partly due to his description being in the form of a matter-of-fact tone and the detail and description he gives of Atlantis.

In Platos dialogue Timaeus, he describes in detail how he came into possession of the knowledge of Atlantis, and makes it clear that he acquired the story from his great-grandfather Critias, who had heard if from his grandfather who was also called Critias who learned of it from his father Dropides, who heard it from his cousin Solon.

Solon himself had learned the story during his travels to Egypt in about 590BCE, when he visited the Nile delta city of Sais, capital of the 26th Pharaonic dynasty and major centre of religion and learning.

Solon was a figure of major importance in the early history of Athens, a warrior, poet, statesmen and lawmaker, he was known as one fo the Seven Wise Men of Athens. Upon his return from Eqypt where he had seen scribes carved into a pillar of an Egyptian temple which Psonchis translated for him, Solon begun to work on an epic verse called Atlantikos, although the poem was never completed and it is often assumed that the unfinished manuscript, or a copy of it must have come into Plato’s possession which would explain how Plato knew such detail about Atlantis.

As the myth of Atlantis has developed in more recent times, authors such as Ignatius Donnell begun to look for archaeological, linguistic and scientific evidence of the prior existence of Atlantis, Egypt begun to assume a different role in the tale, in Timaeus, Psonchis makes it clear that Egypt was not yet a nation when Atlantis ruled the known world and the kingdom of pharaos only began 500-1000 years after the fall of Atlantis, placing it at around 8500BCE, which conventional historical evidence suggest is widely improbable and that unified nations first arose in Egypt around 2500BCE.

I know that the facts kind of randomly end there, but that’s all I’ve gotten up to so far in the book, P.S. It’s not taken word from word. But I feel that when I re-write something it helps it stick in my brain just a little bit more J

But now that I’ve bored you all enough with this 4 Page long Blog. I say, see ya next time!

I started watching The Big Bang Theory about 4 months ago when a friend of mine on WLM linked me to a site where I could watch random shows. Although the quality of the video on the site wasn’t really that well, I started watching the Big Bang Theory, and I loved it. It might be the semi-geekiness in me and just the fact that I don’t watch a whole lot of television for it to compete with. Anyway after watching the entire first two seasons online, I brought the DVD for Season 1 (Season 2 not available ATM in Australia)

The Big Bang Theory, is an American sitcom created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady and originally premiered on the 24th September 2007 and it revolves around the lives of two guys in their twenties who work at the Californian Institute of Technology. Leonard, an experimental physicist and his room mate Sheldon a theoretical physicist and they live across the hall from Penny, an attractive blonde waitress with hollywood dreams.

Basically the show spends a lot of time mixing the two different worlds together. The world of a young, blonde woman and two geeky physicists. With the addition of Howard and Rajesh (Leonard and Sheldon’s equally as geeky friends)

Leonard played by Johnny Galecki is an experimental physicist with an IQ of 173 and received his Ph.D. at the age of 24 and shares an apartment with his friend / colleague Sheldon. After being a geek his whole life Leonard starts trying to explore more social situations when Penny moves in across the hall.

Sheldon is played by Jim Parsons and portrays a theoretical physicist with a Master’s degree and two Ph.D’s as well as an IQ of 187. He was a child prodigy starting college at the age of 11, straight out of the 5th grade. He extremely neurotic which is the main point of the characters humor.

Penny (the attractive blonde) is okayed by Kaley Cuoco. She’s start’s off as the new neighbor across the hall from Leonard and Sheldon and is their complete opposite. Working as a waitress at a local restaurant she wants to become an actress, although in episode 10 (The Loobenfeld Decay) when Penny is cast in a musical, she wouldn’t want to be aiming to become a singer…

Leonard begins to develop a love for Penny, while she puts up with his friends: Sheldon Cooper, who has a combination of obsessive–compulsive disorder and neurosis; Howard Wolowitz, a sex-crazed maniac; and Rajesh, who will not speak to her, as he is too shy to talk to girls. Throughout the season: Sheldon loses his job for insulting his new boss, finds his ego bruised by a child prodigy, and finds himself unable to bear being part of a lie that Leonard has told—always attacking the world with a relentless need to assert his supremacy; Rajesh learns that he can talk to girls when he’s drunk; and Penny and Leonard go out (in the final episode).

Season Two begins to deal with character development, including Sheldon becoming more and more obsessive, with a characteristic lack of understanding of irony and sarcasm reminiscent of Asperger syndrome. Leonard and Penny’s relationship takes a turn for the nasty when they break up, but quickly is resolved and progresses into a stronger friendship than before. In the season finale Penny hints at her true feelings for Leonard. Meanwhile Howard’s character remains similar to that of season one. Rajesh manages to briefly apologize to Penny without having consumed alcohol.

With out a doubt, Stargate is my all time favorite television series ever. The way I got into Stargate was a bit weird, as a kid I watched it occasionally when ever it was on TV in the days that Southern Cross Television actually aired it at about 5PM on a Saturday, but then I kind of just stopped watching it for some unknown reasons. A while later I started watching it again, about 5 years ago actually when Stargate Atlantis started up, instantly I got hooked to it because it was something fresh and new and I kind of got back into the whole Stargate thing completely, although I watched SG1 in the worst order ever, buying the DVD Season box sets in a rather confusing order of something along the lines of 9,8, 1, 2, 10, 7, 3, 4, 5, 6 (Don’t ask me why)

But since then in those 5 years since I started watching it again and became an obsessed nut and brought all the DVD’s and even a $200 + Jacket Costume replica Stargate SG1 and Atlantis have both been canceled, with Atlantis recently being canceled to basically make way for their new attempt at getting more fans and not caring about the old ones by creating something they like to call Stargate Universe, something that most original fan’s and watchers are dubbing either Stargate: 90210 or Stargate: Battle Star Galactica, from what was originally told in the initial conception of Stargate Universe the main thing that stuck out was the fact that the Casting directors were looking for new, younger faces and they were basically going to get stuck on a super advanced ship that is stuck on an automatic course that no one can turn off and if they aren’t back on the ship in time, bad luck they are stuck on what ever planet they went to.

I don’t have a whole lot to say about this rather than I really hope it’s going to be better than it seems but from these preview’s it doesn’t look anything like past Stargate series and I hope they really do bring in a lot of new fans / viewers with it as I’m sure MGM and the Stargate franchise will loose a lot of their old ones. I will leave you with these Previews after the jump, just click below!
