SandCity

13 Feb

This is a photo from the camping trip to Bay of Fires, Yes we may have all been 21 year old Males, but that didn’t stop us from building sand castles, and going one further to create a Sand City. Its similar to something seen on iRelle’s Blog a few months back, but this City learnt from the City of Kylos’s mistakes and built their infrastructure away from the shore line. As to not meet an Atlantis fate.

The city had everything… Well most things, it started off with a few houses and a Giant Buddha like god (me), eventually a Hospital was built and then a school, quickly followed by a Nuclear Power Plant which became the largest building in the City’s sky line. Visible in the centre of the picture at the top, its the highest building. The area around the power plant quickly became the Slum’s and Government housing commission areas. With the Prestige suburb being built with close access to schools, Hospitals, Sport grounds and even prime sea front viewing. One of the last buildings to arrive was the “historic” castle from when the city used to be run by a Monarchy. The Castle was brought out by an independent party who re-developed it for their own uses…

Camping at Bay of Fires

04 Feb

Most people will know that the weekend just gone, Adam, Andrew, Kyle and I went camping at The Bay of Fires. It’s pretty obvious considering my first two posts for the Feb28 challenge have been photos from there, and a fair few are likely to follow until I fell a creative urge take me over again.

The Bay of Fires, located about a two and a half hour drive away from Launceston is along the states East Coast 10-15 minutes away from St Helens and as most know it was listed as 2009’s Hottest Location by Lonely Planet. The water at Bay of fires is such a nice blue colour, and the sand for the majority of it is as soft and white as you can imagine, apart from a couple of sections where the sand becomes rather rough.

The area is split up into many small beaches, some of them not so small, all divided by granite rocks slowly rusting over time. Sure the water may be cold, white sand  = cold water, and you may not find a lot of people swimming in the water there, but if you can brave the chill at first, the beaches are amazing.

On Friday afternoon after a delayed start the four of us managed to get ourselves organized and late in the afternoon we were at our campsite setting up the tent and trying to remember how everything worked, we got there later than we expected because Kyle wanted to see some Fall’s along the way just outside of Scottsdale, falls which we’ve happened to see before, simply because Kyle wanted to see them and had at this time forgotten he had seen them before. We also stopped for a late lunch in Scottsdale.

Friday saw us out having a few drinks on the beach, and ended up with me stepping on a tree root in the dark and some how hurting my foot (it still hurts to walk 4 days later) and after a few card games in the tent we eventually retired. What came as a surprise was how early we all woke up, we are all bad for sleeping in late but some how we were all awake by 9:30.

Saturday started with some swimming, a lot of seaweed and the rough surf pushed me up the shore at one stage, resulting in my short pockets filling up with sand. After some lunch, Courtney and her boyfriend Neil gave us a visit for about an hour that was when we checked out the beaches again and I used the opportunity to grab a few snap shots with my DSLR. The rest of the day saw us heading to St Helens to get Pizza for dinner, and drinks once again, at which time Kyle and Andrew decided it would be fun to go for a swim at night.

Side story, me and kyle were the last ones to the beach when we got there we were looking for Adam and Andrew, we could see Adam by the water and thought we saw Andrew further away near the rocks. Kyle slowly approached and I was asking “Is it Andrew?” I then proceded to flash the torch in the direction and shout “It Really Is Andrew!” only to then realise it was a couple on the beach having some alone time, with Kyle right near them saying “Hi” after that we ran away laughing like idiots

After Kyle and Andrew spent a while swimming in the shallows of the beach they decided they had enough and then Kyle realised how much of a bad idea swimming at night really was, because there is no sun to warm you back up. Saturday night ended with some card games once again, chatting by the fire and yes sleep.

Sunday we packed up, headed to Anson’s bay along annoying gravel roads only to find that it’s a rather boring location and then moving along to Eddystone point to check out the light house which you would have seen in Mondays Blog!

And that ladies and gentle men is my story  of Camping at Bay of Fires

My Goals for Twenty-Ten

03 Jan

It’s a new year, but I feel like I got a head start on it, because when Summer came around I decided that I was going to try and get out more, be more active. Since I started working full time a few years ago, I started putting a lot of things off simply because I couldn’t be bothered if I had to work that day, or the next day or what ever. SO when Summer rolled around I told myself that I WOULD go to the beach at every single opportunity that I got, that I would hang out with my friends as much as possible and just try and make 2010 an all round great year.

I’ve already been to the beach more times than I can remember and that’s how I like it. We live in Australia people! (Well the majority of us that read my blog) and who cares if it’s one stereotype that we end up conforming to! But on the opposite end of that spectrum, when Winter decides to return and going to the beach is no longer a smart / safe option I want to go to the snow just as much. Last year; Kyle, Yolanda and I went to Ben Lomond once and just played around in the snow, and if we had better clothing, were more pre-paired it could have been even more awesome. The day in the snow was great and we weren’t even there for that long. So as another goal for the year, I want to take skiing lesson’s. Anyone care to join?

By now you would have all heard about the incident at work where some customers were stealing some groceries and out in the carpark one of them turned around and hit me a few times. Just so you know I’m all good and I’m not going to let this one small incident ruin the year for me. I have holidays coming up and hope that there will be a camping trip involved, and maybe even a trip to Melbourne if anyone wants to join me!

Is this thing on?

24 Nov

So it’s been a week since I last blogged… WOW I’m slack when AnnaRelle isn’t around! My last blog post you can see below this one was when we all went to the beach. I even missed SimSunday! And my Sim’s Story needs telling so look out for that later in the week!

Whats been happening in my life since the last blog? Well nothing but working, and that really sucks! I worked 6 days straight and it’s a pain in the ass, especially with a new roster starting this week that has me at work until midnight most nights, so while I adjust to the later hours the blog updating might take a bit of a dive! But I feel that ever since PhotOtober that I haven’t actually written a Blog… You know, just a blog. Chit Chat, boring Crap… A Blog… All of October was filled with pictures, and the half  assed blogs this month have been based on a certain something. I think with Christmas coming up, I may ditch the challenges for a while. But I will try and keep up SimSunday! As It’s only just started out.

Recently I got a Google Wave Invite from Anna, while yes it’s all still in Preview and everything’s a bit buggy at times. The whole idea / premises behind the Google Wave Idea is great…. In a nut shell, Google Wave is a Collaboration tool, Email, Project Management and Instant Messaging all wrapped together in a user based tree hierarchy system.

You create a new wave, add who ever you want to the conversation, then start typing. Whats great is if people are online or offline, everyone sees the same thing in order. You can be chatting about an upcoming trip your planning, and all the detail is there for the others who haven’t been online at the time. You can go back and edit your posts. Reply to various parts of posts and even upload all your pictures for people to see.

While some people might not see the point, necessity behind it all. I think if it’s finished off right, Google Wave could mean the end for MSN… Apart from all the people who are stuck in their ways and won’t accept anything new… BTW, all those people need a Twitter account as well =P

Nothing more to rant on about! Look out for my delayed SimSunday post at some stage!

Summer, Sun & Sand

17 Nov

It’s the week of Summer at ii-Blog.com, and today. Myself, iRelle, iKylos and Tiggy all headed to the beach for a day of sun, sand and swimming in Bridport. As soon as we picked Andrew up from in town the clouds enveloped Launceston and we all thought the Universe had done its usual trick for when ever Andrew heads to the beach and poor down with rain. But luckily as we drove through the country side we found ourselves on the other side of the clouds, with nothing but Blue Sky and White fluffy clouds spotted around the place as we searched for a suitable beach.

We ended up at Adams Beach, and there was NO ONE else in sight, maybe because its November and still officially Spring, or the fact that it was a Weekday. But it was good as we had the entire beach to ourselves… that was until Anna was up behind a sand-dune getting changed and 3 or 4 random guys walked down the track. Although they disappeared across the rocks not to much later. Only to return with Surf / Boggy Boards, but it was a large beach and we could share.

I decided to be arrogant and not wear any sunscreen, and while I sit here now with a red face, stinging arms and slightly red legs. I don’t feel that bad considering everyone else wore sunscreen and still got sunburnt!

After a while in the waters, being bashed around by the waves and after covering Anna in sand just where the waves lapped up the shore. We wondered over to the rocks to lay down and dry off. We sat there for what would probably be a good hour or more, just sitting and talking crap.

It was a nice day in the end and we headed back to reality at about 4:30, with a short trip along gravel road in my 4WD getting it nice and dirty, Now I have to wash it some time this week and vacuum out all the sand… thanks kyle.. thanks.
