The Centerpiece of the Temple of Poseidon, the creator of Atlantis, was an elaborate stature of Poseidon himself driving a chariot pulled by six winged horses, hence the connection in Stargate Atlantis where the Logo is a Winged Horse sitting atop a Stargate Chevron!

In Platos account, Atlantis is the name of both the island continent and its capital city, similar as to when referring to Rome the city and Rome the ancient empire. The City of Atlantis was a model ancient metropolis, wonderfully appointed with every marvel of the Bronze Age, but existed some time in the middle of the Stone Age.

Atlantis was divided into ten portions so that each of Poseidon’s sons should have a princedom of their own. With the eldest son Atlas as overlord of the whole continent; hence it’s name. The Ten princes would meet at the Temple of Poseidon at intervals of five and six years alternately to air any grievances and pass judgements.

Atlantis was said to be placed on an Acropolis, surrounded by three concentric rings of canals, carved out by Poseidon to guard Cleitas his wife. Later the descendants built bridges over the canals for roads and dug channels between the canals for naval access.

The continent of Atlantis was blessed with mineral wealth and the mountains were dotted with mines where the Atlanteans could dig for ore, especially orichalcum. With in the Temple of Poseidon was a mighty pillar made entirely of Orcharlcum and had the laws of the land carved into it, as well as curses for those who broke the laws.
