App Review!

Posted by on July 3, 2009

This weeks iPhone app of the week is by Electronic Arts Nederland BV and it is their new app, Trivial Pursuit (International) the app costs $5.99 from the iTunes App store and is currently labeled with Apple as New and Note worthy so I figured, why not give it a go and see where mine and Apple’s opinions meet up.

APPLICATION DESCRIPTION
With 1,000′s of new questions, you’ll never run out of answers. Stunning graphics and rich sound effects immerse you in the game. Feeling nostalgic? Play a round in Classic Mode. In the mood for something new? Choose your path to success in Pursuit Mode. Answer fun and challenging questions correctly to get your piece of the pie!!!

MY REVIEW

Before I start, I would like to point it out that I have and probably always will be completely useless at Trivial Pursuit unless they bring out a Trivial Pursuit for Geeks, in which case I will probably still fail! Because that is my kind of thing… I prefer mindless entertainment, really speaking myself up here aren’t I?

After downloading and playing this game, I hate to say that in my opinion it isn’t really worth the $5.99 price tag, maybe $1 or $2 but $5 is something a bit hefty for someone like me who isn’t really a general facts / history buff. The game itself is relatively easy to play, with a shake of the iPhone the dice roll’s its way around and you get to select which piece you want to jump onto, I will admit that I played the game on easy, because I know Medium or Hard I would have given up on in about 2 minutes. Although I almost found Easy to be too easy, to the point in which I got about 20 questions right in a row and had already earned 3 Pie pieces before the AI opponent even had a roll of the dice.

But let me tell you, Once I failed that Sport and Leisure question I was screwed with a big old pile of bad luck and dumbness on my part and for about 15 minutes after that I didn’t get a question right and I put the iPhone down on the charger to write this little old review.

In my opinion if you want a game to pass the time, Crash Bandicoot Racing or iCopter might be a better bet for some small entertainment factor, unless testing your knowledge is your forte I really don’t think this app is worth much, I do how ever highly rate the game app with its like-ness of the real board game, the creators have managed to successfully capture the essence of the Trivial Pursuit Board game extremely well and the AI, Single player adaption is great for those who want to test their knowledge in solitude.

Over all I rate this app 4/10 with it’s most redeeming factor being its likeness to the real game.

    well, snap!
I now want an iPhone so I can play trivial pursuit on it. (I love trivial pursuit, but I guess once you’ve had all the questions once, you’ve had ‘em all) … …yeah, not quite believing I just said that. But nice review. although twisting my head around to read the question hurt my neck.

@’Relle yeah the images were a last thought, I forgot they would go side ways because of the iPhone, the images are saved that way and I forgot to flip them around before uploading them. My bad, better attempt to fix that before next time.
