Slumdog Millionaire

Posted by on May 15, 2009

Don’t you love it when you come home and there is a DVD shaped package waiting for you? That happened to me last night and I was pretty confused, even more so when I opened it up to find it had Slumdog Millionaire in it, a movie I had heard about and looked at on Ezydvd.com and it turns out I had some how managed to order the DVD and completely forget about it, so it was a pleasant surprise when I opened it.

Slumdog Millionaire (DVD ART to the left) was directed by Danny Bole and tells the story of Jamal Malik played by Dev Patel, a young orphan from the Slums of Mumbai who ends up one question away from winning the ‘Who Wants To Be a Millionaire’ jackpot. He starts off arrested on the suspicion of cheating and in desperation to prove his innocence he tells the story that is his life.

From the chaos on the streets that his and his brother grew up in, through their wild adventures on the road and their vicious run-ins with local gangs, oh and Latika, played by Freida Pinto the girl he loved and lost and found and lost and found and found.

Slumdog Millionaire is based on the best selling book Q&A by Vikas Swarup and written by Simon Beaufoy (the full monty) I haven’t read the book although the movie defiantly makes me want to think about getting it at-least.

I like how the story is put together, at the start it is a bit confusing but that may have just been because I had worked 8 hours and then started watching a DVD at midnight, but the way the story is told quickly makes sense and explains how Jamal Malik knew all the right answers for some one who grew up in the Slums of Mumbai.

I don’t really want to say to much more about the film so that it’s not spoiled for anyone, although the Blurb thingi that I got most of the information from at the start of this post gives away the jest of the film.

If you haven’t seen or heard of this movie I strongly recommend you go out and rent it!
